HISTORY

In 1962, four mothers of school-aged children with developmental handicaps recognized a need for supports. Out of that need, the Alliston and District Association for the Retarded Children began. In 1971, we expanded services to include preschool services, residential services, respite, and vocational services and became affilated with the Ontario Association for the Mentally Retarded and received our chapter. Our name was changed to the Alliston and District Association for the
Mentally Retarded.

In 1989, the name was changed to the Community Living Association for South Simcoe(CLASS). The Association has expanded tremendously over the past 20 years. Staffing has grown as well we increased the number of supports and residences within the area. Bradford area supports have also expanded over the yeras to include one residence and the Bradford Community Day Program.
