A park for everyone

Margarita Park: An Inclusive Space for All — Groundbreaking July 23

The Town of Innisfil is set to break ground on Margarita Park, a fully inclusive community park designed for people of all abilities — a project years in the making.

“This is what they call a champion park,” explains Kim, who is supported by CLASS and an advocate on the committee behind the park. “It means it’s all inclusive — for every disability that’s out there. Whether you’re in a wheelchair, blind, autistic, have behavioural needs — all of it. This park is going to be the biggest one we’ve built.”

Kim, who has been involved since the idea first surfaced at a Town of Innisfil committee meeting in 2017, shared how important a space like this is:

“If I could get to a swing, I’d be in there every day — it just takes a bad day away. Now with a wheelchair swing and other equipment, we can all enjoy it.”

The park will feature a smooth rubber surface for accessibility, a wheelchair-accessible merry-go-round, and a special “Wee Swing” for people using wheelchairs — all designed to create opportunities for inclusion and connection.

Fittingly, the park is named after a dedicated committee member who passed away: Margarita Park, in tribute to her legacy.

Kim adds: “If you look at CLASS’s board — Inclusion. That is exactly what this park is about.”

Everyone is invited to attend the official groundbreaking ceremony on July 23 at 2 p.m., at 1110 Cole Street, Innisfil.

Come out and celebrate this milestone with the community!
