What does independence look like to you?
For many of us we don’t think twice about how to get form point A to point B. For some people supported it may not be that easy to get around. In addition, it could take many months training and working with our CLASS staff and the community to build trust and courage to take that first step independently to use local transportation to get to where they want to go.
Meet Tom! Tom has been practicing and learning how to take the bus from Beeton to Bradford so he can get to his day program. It does not stop there. Tom then had to learn how to walk safely and independently to the program from the bus stop.
After months of practicing and meeting some wonderful bus drivers along the way Tom was ready! Tom calls some of the drivers he has met ‘BOSS’ and they are happy to see him twice a week and are proud of the skills he has learned and continues to learn each week.
Tom is feeling so proud of himself here in this photo below and his accomplishments. Way to go Tom we are all so proud of you!
