Every morning after breakfast, Sharon from Colgan steps out into the backyard, where she’s been carefully tending two garden beds. With the help of her team, they’ve been growing snow peas, kale, cherry tomatoes, and various herbs. Recently, tiny cucumbers have even started to sprout!
As the vegetables and herbs have grown, Sharon has been able to share the fruits of her labour with her housemates. Fresh ingredients from the garden have made their way into salads, stir-fries, and other dishes throughout the summer. It’s been a real joy for everyone to taste the difference that fresh, homegrown food brings to a meal.
Growing a garden has so many rewards: the constant supply of fresh veggies and herbs, the satisfaction of knowing exactly where your food comes from, and the pride that comes with nurturing something from seed to plate. Sharon said, “I like gardening. I like taking care of the garden. It makes me feel good.” She added, “I love getting to cook and eat all of the veggies that we grew.”
For Sharon, meal prep has become one of the best parts of her day, especially when the ingredients come straight from the garden. It’s not just cooking – it’s enjoying the hard work and love that went into every meal.
